چکیده

Anthelmintic efficacy of levamisole, albendazole, ivermectin and morantel tartrate was evaluated in 75 sheep naturally parasitized with Haemonchus, Trichostrongylus, Oesophagostomum and Ostertagia spp. Results revealed that levamisole, albendazole, ivermectin and morantel tartrate were lOO, 98.82, 97.02 and 76.50 per cent effective, respectively in reducing the eggs per gram of faeces. The animals treated with these anthelmintics gained more weight compared with untreated animals. It was recommended that levamisole be used as a drug of choice in local conditions against nematodes of sheep followed by albendazole and ivermectin in the order of their efficacy.

Anthelmintic Resistance in South American Camelids

INTRODUCTION Anthelmintic resistance is defined as “a greater frequency of individuals within a population able to tolerate doses of a compound than in the normal population of the same species.” 1 Anthelmintic resistance of gastrointestinal (GI) nematodes, particularly Haemonchus contortus, to commonly used anthelmintics has become a significant problem in small ruminants (sheep and goats) in ...

Field evaluation of the efficacy of common anthelmintics used in the control of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep in Dabat district, Northwest Ethiopia

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) infections are the main impediments that restrict the welfare and productivity of small ruminant in the world. Effective management of GINs in grazing sheep relies heavily on the use of highly efficacious anthelmintic drugs. However, anthelmintic resistance is becoming a significant concern in the world, and this phenomenon severely threatens the poten...

Overberg Research Projects. XI. First stage larval reduction test to assess anthelmintic efficacy ante mortem in sheep.

Two field trials, one with suckling Merino ewe lambs and the other with yearling Dohne Merino rams, are described. In these the anthelmintic efficacy of febantel (a benzimidazole), ivermectin, levamisole and morantel are compared, using the 1st stage larval reduction test. The mean natural log (+1 for zero values) of the post treatment larval counts of the treated groups was compared with that ...

First report of multiple anthelmintic resistance in nematodes of sheep in Colombia.

This study aimed to report the presence of parasites resistant to the most used anthelmintic drugs in sheep in Colombia. Four farms (denominated farm 1, 2, 3 and 4) were selected where the animals were not treated with anthelmintics for two months before the trial. Animals with faecal egg count (FEC) above 150 and of different ages were allocated into six groups, each consisting of at least 5 a...
